Editorial Policy

This page explains how TrailKit produces its guides and the standards every post has to meet before it goes live. We publish it because you deserve to know how the recommendations you're reading were made.

What we cover

We stick to our lane: outdoor and everyday carry gear — knives, flashlights, multitools, packs, wallets, watches, and camping and hiking equipment. We do not publish medical, financial, or legal advice, and we keep survival content general rather than making life-or-death guarantees about any product.

How a guide is made

  1. Research. We identify what a category of gear actually needs to do, then research current, real, in-stock products against those needs. We never invent product names, specs, or prices.
  2. Writing. Guides are written to compare real options honestly, with clear "best for" framing, comparison tables, and an FAQ. Some drafts are produced with AI assistance.
  3. Fact-checking and editing. A human reviews every post before publishing. We verify products are real and available, remove or soften claims we can't support, check the writing for accuracy and clarity, and confirm required disclosures are in place.
  4. Review over time. Gear rotates and prices move. We update or correct guides when we learn something has changed — and we ask readers to flag anything that's out of date.

Honesty and independence

We call out real downsides, not just positives — a recommendation you can trust is worth more than hype. Affiliate relationships and advertising never determine what we recommend or what we say about a product. If we wouldn't carry it ourselves, we don't tell you to.
