About TrailKit

TrailKit is an independent outdoor and everyday carry (EDC) gear site. We cover the kit that goes with you every day — knives, flashlights, multitools, wallets, packs, watches — and the gear that comes along on the trail, from water filters to headlamps. Our goal is simple: publish honest, genuinely useful buyer's guides that help you spend once and carry well, without the hype.

How we choose what to recommend

Every guide starts with the same question: what does this piece of gear actually need to do, and which products do that job best at a given budget? We research current, real, in-stock products — never invented models or made-up specs — and we weigh them on the criteria that matter for daily use: durability, comfort, materials, battery type, and value. We call out real trade-offs and downsides, because a review that only lists positives isn't a review. When we say a product is "best for" a particular person, we mean it isn't automatically best for everyone — and we tell you who each pick is and isn't for.

How we make money

TrailKit is reader-supported. Some links on our pages are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy through them — at no extra cost to you. This never changes what we recommend or what we say about a product. You can read the full affiliate disclosure for details. We also may run display advertising to support the site.

Our use of AI

Some of our content is produced with AI assistance and then reviewed and edited by a human before publishing. Every guide goes through a fact-checking and quality pass — we verify that products are real and available, remove unverifiable claims, and make sure the writing is accurate and useful. We publish nothing we wouldn't be comfortable recommending ourselves.
